BUILT AROUND YOUR MOVE
The right amount of help.
In your quote request, include both addresses, the floor and whether there is a lift at each, and whether the van can drive into the yard or has to stop on the street. Photos or a short video of your largest furniture help us estimate the volume more accurately.

Home, office and small moves across Vantaa
We move homes and offices all over Vantaa, from flats in Myyrmäki to houses in Korso and offices in Aviapolis. Office moves can be done at the weekend, so your working week isn’t interrupted. We also do small moves and single-item deliveries, for example when a sofa you bought online needs collecting from Tammisto and bringing to Hakunila. We work in English and Finnish, and moves further afield are by arrangement.
You choose how much help you need. These extra services can go on the same quote:
- Packing service for the whole home or, say, just the kitchen and bookshelves
- Furniture disassembly and assembly, including new flat-pack furniture
- Move-out cleaning before you hand back the keys
- Storage if you can’t move into your new home straight away
- Taking away old furniture on the same trip
Moving in Vantaa, district by district
Vantaa is Finland’s fourth-largest city, and its seven major districts are very different places to move in or out of. How smoothly moving day goes depends mostly on the building, the yard and the street at each end. If your quote request mentions the neighbourhood, the type of building and the yard access, we can send the right size of van and crew. Here are practical notes for each major district, plus Kartanonkoski:
- Tikkurila: The centre has grown up around what the city calls Finland’s third-busiest railway station. On-street parking in the centre is paid, and tram works will keep changing traffic arrangements until 2029. Agree the loading spot with your housing company (taloyhtiö) in advance.
- Myyrmäki: One in four Vantaa residents lives in the wider Myyrmäki district. Parking in the centre is paid, while in low-rise areas such as Vapaala and Kaivoksela the van can usually get closer to the door.
- Kivistö: A new area built around the Ring Rail Line, with many wooden blocks of flats and construction still under way. If you’re moving into a new build, check the route into the yard and any nearby building sites before moving day. Parking in the centre is paid.
- Korso: According to the city, one of Finland’s largest areas of detached houses. Check that a van can turn in the yard and whether your street is a private road. In winter, residential streets are ploughed only after the busier ones.
- Koivukylä: The district takes in the large low-rise areas of Rekola and Asola, the Havukoski estate and Leinelä, which grew up with the Ring Rail Line. In the low-rise areas, check the drive and turning space; in Leinelä’s new blocks of flats, book the lift.
- Hakunila, Länsimäki and Vaarala: A mix of blocks of flats and low-rise housing. In Länsimäki and Hakunila, tram construction is changing traffic in stages on roads such as Hakunilantie, Kyytitie and Länsimäentie. Check the route and loading spot in Vantaa’s map service a few days before you move.
- Aviapolis: Vantaa’s largest business district, with around 37,000 jobs. New residential areas such as Muura and Annefred are going up along the tram line, so allow for nearby building sites in both office and home moves.
- Kartanonkoski: The streets in this residential area are narrow, so plan the loading spot in advance. If the van needs street space for more than a brief loading stop, apply for a permit in good time, and let the neighbours know about the move.
Parking the van and street permits in Vantaa
In Vantaa, most parking is on private plots: residents use their own or rented spaces, and street parking is mainly meant for visitors and short errands. So ask your housing company (taloyhtiö) or property manager (isännöitsijä) first: can the van drive into the yard, is there a loading area, and does the lift need booking?
Under the Road Traffic Act, stopping briefly to load or unload goods is not parking. It is allowed in a no-parking zone but not in a no-stopping zone. Street parking is paid in the centres of Tikkurila, Myyrmäki and Kivistö.
In winter, snow affects where the van can stop. Vantaa looks after about 1,600 km of streets and ploughs public transport routes and other busy streets first, so after heavy snowfall it can take days to reach residential streets. Clearing the ridge of snow the plough leaves across a driveway is the property owner’s job, so if you are moving from or to a detached house, clear the drive and its entrance before moving day. Our guide to moving in winter has more tips.
If the van needs part of a street or park for more than a brief loading stop, or loading needs temporary traffic arrangements, you need a permit from the city. You apply online through the Lupapiste permit service. This is how it works:
- Apply at least five working days before the move, or at least ten for extensive or complex arrangements.
- Attach a temporary traffic management plan. Vantaa accepts Helsinki’s standard drawings B1–B5, made for skips and moves, if you enter the drawing number in the project description.
- There is usually a charge: a processing fee plus a fee for the area used, based on the street’s fee class and the size of the area reserved. The fee class is based partly on the street’s winter maintenance class, which you can check in the ‘Katujen talvihoito’ dataset in Vantaa’s map service. Permits for lifting work and skips lasting under a day can be granted free of charge.
- If the permit requires no-parking signs, note the registration numbers of any vehicles already parked there when the signs go up.
- If you are unsure, for example whether a permit for your move will be charged, ask the city first at luvat@vantaa.fi.
Moving from Helsinki or Espoo to Vantaa, and back
We move people in every direction between Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa, say from Kallio to Tikkurila or from Leppävaara to Myyrmäki. For things specific to the Helsinki end, such as stairs in older inner-city buildings and reserving street space, see our guide to moving in Helsinki. For the Espoo end of a move, see movers in Espoo.
When you move between cities, keep these points in mind:
- Street space is arranged separately in each city: in Vantaa you apply for a permit through Lupapiste, and in Helsinki you file a notice of work on a public area. If both ends are tight, the loading spot is planned separately for each address.
- From Helsinki, the usual routes into Vantaa are Tuusulanväylä, Hämeenlinnanväylä or Lahdenväylä. Between Espoo and Vantaa the route often follows Kehä III (Ring Road III).
- The Vantaa tram line is under construction until 2029, running from Mellunmäki in Helsinki via Länsimäki, Hakunila and Tikkurila to Aviapolis and the airport. Temporary arrangements are shown in Vantaa’s map service, and we take them into account when planning the route and timing.
Moving to Vantaa: municipality of residence (kotikunta), taxes and health centre
You can file your change-of-address notice (muuttoilmoitus) up to a month before the move, and the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV) must have it within a week of moving. One notice updates both the population register and Posti, but your electricity and internet contracts won’t follow you automatically, so give your new address to your electricity company and internet provider too. Our guide to registering your new address walks you through it.
Vantaa belongs to the Vantaa and Kerava wellbeing services county (hyvinvointialue), while Helsinki still runs its own social, health and rescue services. So moving between Helsinki and Vantaa changes who provides these services. The same applies to moving between Espoo and Vantaa, as Espoo belongs to the Western Uusimaa wellbeing services county.
In Vantaa, your health centre is automatically the one for the area you live in. The centres are Tikkurila, Myyrmäki, Martinlaakso, Kivistö, Koivukylä, Korso and Länsimäki, and the county publishes a postcode list showing which one covers your address. You can switch health centre by written notice at most once a year, and a move lets you choose a new personal doctor before the usual year is up.
For tax purposes, your municipality of residence (kotikunta) is the one where you were registered as living on 31 December of the year before the tax year. If you move to Vantaa by 31 December, Vantaa becomes your municipality for the following year’s taxes.

Old furniture and recycling in Vantaa
A move is a good time to declutter. Vantaa’s only Sortti station – a recycling centre run by HSY, the Helsinki region’s environmental services authority – is in Ruskeasanta, at Klemmintie 7, reached via the Koivukylä junction. It is open 7am–9pm on weekdays and 11am–6pm at weekends, so you can fit in a trip around a Saturday or Sunday move.
If you take things there yourself, note that Sortti stations don’t admit lorries, or a vehicle and trailer wider than 2 metres or longer than 10 metres, and staff can’t help you unload.
If you’d rather not deal with it yourself, you can add taking away old furniture to your moving quote. Things in good condition can also be donated, and there are collection services for large items:
- The Kierrätyskeskus second-hand stores in Tammisto (Tammiston kauppatie 11) and Porttipuisto (Porttisuontie 7) accept furniture in good condition. In Tammisto, larger loads go to the donation point behind the store.
- The Kierrätyskeskus store in Myyrmäki (Isomyyri, Liesitori 1) accepts small furniture.
- Ruskeasanta has a Kierrätyskeskus collection point for clean, reusable small items.
- Kierrätyskeskus collects donations on weekdays for a fee, and HSY’s paid Sortti-nouto service picks up large items from households and housing companies.

What affects the price of a move in Vantaa?
The price depends on how much work the move takes. Vantaa’s housing ranges from detached houses in Korso and Rekola to suburban blocks of flats in Myyrmäki and Hakunila and new wooden blocks in Kivistö, so two homes of the same size can be very different jobs. A block of flats with no lift, a long carry from the yard to the door or a house with a full garage can add more work than the floor area alone. The more of this you tell us up front, the more precise your quote, and photos or a short video on WhatsApp help us gauge how much there is to move. Read more about what affects moving costs, and see how we price moves on our pricing page.
The main factors are:
- how much you have, including the storeroom, basement or garage
- floors and lifts at both addresses
- the carrying distance from the door to the van, and whether the van can get into the yard
- the distance, whether within Vantaa or to Helsinki or Espoo
- how many movers are needed and which extra services you choose
How a move with us works
Before you book, you always get a written quote setting out the work, how it is priced and any possible extra costs. The quote is free and you are under no obligation. If you are comparing moving companies in Vantaa, give each one the same details so the quotes are easy to compare.
From request to moving day, the steps are:
- Send a quote request through the form or on WhatsApp at +358 40 035 0020, with both addresses, the size of your home, the floor and lift situation, and photos of the largest furniture.
- You receive a written quote. Once you accept it, we confirm the moving day.
- You get ready: pack yourself or book our packing service, reserve the lift with your housing company if needed and sort out the loading spot. If you need street space, apply through Lupapiste in good time.
- On moving day we go through what is being moved, load the large furniture first, then the boxes, and drive to the new address.
- At the new address, we carry everything into the rooms you choose, then check with you that everything agreed has arrived.
Example: a one-bedroom flat from Myyrmäki to Kivistö
This is a hypothetical example of how a typical move within Vantaa is planned. It does not describe a real customer, price or duration, but it shows why floors, lifts and yard access often shape the plan more than the distance does.
A couple are moving from a one-bedroom flat two floors up (the third floor, as Finns count it) in Myyrmäki, in a building with no lift, to a new wooden block of flats in Kivistö that does have a lift. With their quote request they send photos of the sofa, bed and wardrobe and mention that the stairwell is narrow. The plan looks like this:
- The crew size is matched to the stairs and the volume, since everything has to be carried down the stairs.
- In Myyrmäki the van stops in the yard, as agreed with the property manager. In Kivistö the yard access and nearby building sites are checked beforehand, and the new building’s lift is booked for moving day.
- The sofa is measured against the narrowest point of the stairwell and doors, to see whether the legs need to come off. Our guide to moving without a lift has a ‘Will it fit?’ calculator for this.
- The couple pack themselves and estimate how many boxes they need with our box calculator. The bed and wardrobe are taken apart and reassembled in the new home as an extra service.
- As they stay in Vantaa, their municipality of residence and taxes don’t change. Their health centre may, so they check the county’s postcode list and file their change-of-address notice.
Do you do moves in Vantaa at weekends?
Yes. We move people in Vantaa on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Check your housing company’s rules for any weekend limits, for example on lift use or moving hours. If you have things to recycle, the Ruskeasanta Sortti station is also open at weekends, 11am–6pm.
How much does a move in Vantaa cost?
It depends on how much you have, the floors and lifts, the carrying distance and whether you are moving within Vantaa or to Helsinki or Espoo. Send both addresses, the size of your home and photos of your largest furniture, and you will get a free written quote before you book.
Do I need a permit for the moving van in Vantaa?
Not always. Stopping briefly to load or unload is allowed in a no-parking zone but not in a no-stopping zone, and the van can often use the housing company’s yard. If the van needs street space for more than a brief loading stop or traffic arrangements are needed, the city permit is applied for in the Lupapiste service at least five working days before the move. Questions can go to luvat@vantaa.fi.
Can you move me from Helsinki to Vantaa, or from Vantaa to Espoo?
Yes. We handle moves within and between Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa in every direction. Moves further afield are by arrangement.
Will my health centre change when I move to Vantaa?
Usually, yes. In Vantaa your health centre is automatically the one for your residential area, and the Vantaa and Kerava wellbeing services county publishes a postcode list showing which centre covers each area. So it can change even when you move within Vantaa. You can switch health centre by written notice at most once a year.
Can you take away old furniture when we move?
Yes. We can take away old furniture on the same trip if you add it to your quote. Furniture in good condition can also be donated, for example at the Kierrätyskeskus second-hand stores in Tammisto or Porttipuisto.
Can I get a quote in English or on WhatsApp?
Yes. Send both addresses, the size of your home and photos or a video of your things on WhatsApp to +358 40 035 0020. We serve customers in English and Finnish, and you always get a written quote before you book.
